Northern lights may be visible Sunday across U.S.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has issued a "severe" geomagnetic storm watch for Sunday into Monday. As a result of the storm, the Northern lights may be visible across the United States Sunday night, with states as south as Alabama and southern California being able to views the colorful phenomenon. Rob Steenburgh, science and operations officer at the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, joins LiveNOW's Austin Westfall to break down what a geomagnetic storm is, why it's labeled "severe," and what the public can expect to experience.

Pentagon lost contact with Army helicopter on May 1

Military air traffic controllers at the Pentagon lost contact with an Army helicopter for about 20 seconds on May 1, the Associated Press reported Friday. The communication was briefly lost as the helicopter neared the Pentagon, and as a result two commercial jets had to abort their landings at a Washington airport. This news comes after months of issues with air traffic control radio signals and other aviation headlines.

2 victims identified in deadly San Diego plane crash

A small plane crashed into a San Diego military neighborhood early Thursday morning, killing multiple people, setting roughly a dozen homes on fire, and spewing fuel and debris across the area.
